RUSSOFT and BRASSCOM promote a video-conference to discuss the IT sector in the BRIC countries
Sept. 28, 2009
IT Associations unite to launch appeal to governments on the importance of the Information Technology sector for the New Economy
The recent discussions promoted in global forums on the role of BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) for the development of the New Economy have pushed into the centre stage a shared agenda and concerns in different spheres and industries. The current scenario of the Global Economic Crisis has reinforced that those countries are well-positioned to achieve the needs for growing in a sustainable way and also for stimulating the economical recovery from the crisis.
The Information Technology (IT) sector appears as a great opportunity for the countries to leverage economic growth. This fact becomes evident when we analyze aspects directly related to the IT industry development, such as jobs generation, overall growth in productivity and increase in competitiveness and in GDP.
Following this tendency, RUSSOFT (Russian Software Developers Association) and Brasscom (Brazilian Association of Information Technology and Communication Companies) agreed to organize a video-conference on October 1st, 2009, during the Russian National Innovation Week in St. Petersburg. The purpose of the conference is to apply to the Governments of BRIC countries with an appeal to develop the IT sector and to support international cooperation between those countries in this field. RUSSOFT, Brasscom and the international consultancy KPMG will make a presentation of the Russian, Brazilian and Chinese IT market, respectively.
This opportunity created by IT has to be seen by the national authorities and decision makers as a priority and tools for both - recovery from the crisis and creation of New Economy based on Knowledge and Innovations. This is especially true for the BRIC countries, once the emerging economies need a broad support from the Government in order to expand their competitiveness in the global market.
In the conference there will be discussions on possible joint efforts for the countries to be able to meet new challenges which arise from the crisis. A well shared coherent vision on the problems and continuous cooperation between IT Associations and respective Governments can contribute a lot to the development of the IT sector worldwide.
The event will bring together IT leaders from the BRICs, politicians, entrepreneurs, influencers, investors and Academia to address common issues regarding the relationship with their respective Governments, and also to identify common interests of these countries in the IT area.
